After five long years and countless kilometres of testing, Orxa has launched the Mantis electric motorcycle at Rs 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom India). It is one of the pricier options available in the market, with only the Ultraviolette F77 being dearer in the Indian electric motorcycle space.
Unlike its name, the Mantis doesn’t quite have styling features like its insect namesake. In fact, it looks more like a bee with its dual LED headlights with pincers. The edginess continues across the motorcycle as you get sharp lines and neat cuts on the limited body work. A USD fork would’ve added visual mass to the Mantis but Orxa believes the conventional telescopic fork is good enough to handle suspension duties.
Powering the Mantis is a liquid cooled motor of 11.5 kg with a peak power rating of 20.5 kW and 93 Nm of torque. Compared to the bike showcased at IBW 2022, which had 18 kW/28 kW motor specs, things have been improved. The claimed performance is 0-100 kmph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 132 kmph. The battery is a IP67 rated. The bike gets a belt drive from the motor. All this power is tamed with the gentle roll on throttle function which adds a safety net from sudden acceleration.
The Mantis is backed up by an equally promising battery pack of 8.9 kWh, thanks to which the claimed range is 221 km. It can be charged via a 15A socket and a full charge takes roughly 5 hours. It also gets fast charging as an option with Orxa Blitz 3.3 kW Charger which charges 0%-80% which charges in 2.5 hours. The battery gets 5 layers of inbuilt safety with double redundant thermal runaway protection.
Anchored by an all-aluminium chassis with a 180mm ground clearance, the Mantis achieves a balance between agility and stability, ensuring a smooth and responsive ride. Upright riding ergonomics prioritise rider comfort and control, complemented by a 50-50 weight split for an overall balanced and responsive ride. The Mantis also provides optional connectivity, integrating technology into the riding experience. The motorcycle introduces a modular swingarm, allowing for dynamic adjustments.
You also get a bolted-on aluminum subframe. As mentioned, it is suspended on a telescopic fork and a monoshock, with disc brakes anchoring the bike at both ends.
The Mantis is priced at ₹3,60,000. Bookings are open from today, November 21. The first 1000 customers can book the Mantis at ₹10,000, and bookings after that will be taken at ₹25,000.
