The 4 E-Tech is the second revived model name from Renault after the 5 E-Tech.
Just a few days after teasing the 4 E-Tech, Renault has now fully revealed the electric crossover at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. It is the second revived model name from the French marque after the 5 E-Tech that was unveiled earlier this year.
The original Renault 4 made its debut in 1961 and till 1994, when it was discontinued, Renault sold more than 8 million units. Now after 30 years, it is back as an electric crossover borrowing a lot of its design cues from the original hatchback.
The 4 E-Tech gets a flat, cliff-like front with a thin closed-off grille that also has an illuminated surround and logo. Harking back to the original 4, the E-Tech also gets circular LED DRLs housed inside the grille panel. It also gets 18-inch alloy wheels and the doors get three creases at the bottom to match the trim pieces on the older model.
It still continues with the quarter window behind the rear doors. While it gets two functional roof rails, it also gets a retractable fabric roof as an option. There’s a prominent ‘4’ badge on the tailgate with the iconic three-part, vertically-oriented taillamps on either side. The tailgate also extends into the rear bumper.
Inside, the 4 E-Tech gets a dual-screen layout with a 10.1 virtual instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with built-in Google apps. It also comes with 26 functions for the level 2 ADAS as well as the ‘Reno’ virtual assistant with ChatGPT built in. Furthermore, it also has vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-grid functionality.
The 4 E-Tech gets two versions – “Urban Range” and “Comfort Range”. The former has a smaller 40 kWh battery with a claimed range of more than 300 km (WLTP) as well as a single electric motor with 121 bhp and 225 Nm. The Comfort Range version gets a larger 52 kWh battery with up to 400 km of claimed range (WLTP) along with a 148 bhp, 245 Nm electric motor.
While both versions support 11 kW AC charging, the Urban Range takes around 3.5 hours to fully charge and the Comfort Range takes around 4.5 hours to fully charge. The Urban Range supports up to 80 kW and the Comfort Range supports up to 100 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 15 - 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
