Bengaluru Traffic Police will inform employers if employees are found violating traffic laws.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have now started collecting employee IDs of traffic violators, according to reports. The BTP will also send these IDs to the respective employers to notify them in case the employees are found violating traffic laws.
This method is being employed in Bengaluru’s IT corridor on an experimental basis where the BTP will note down the employee ID numbers and names of violators who are found driving on the wrong side of the road and will subsequently be sent to the employers. This
“There have been multiple enforcement drives in the particular junction for many years, but nothing seemed to have worked out as of now. It’s a three-way junction, where there is a lot of wrong-side driving, and despite catching and fining violators, it seems to happen frequently. The area has also become a spot of traffic accidents,” Clement Jayakumar, General Secretary of Mahadevpura Task Force-Mobility told Bangalore Mirror.
Jayakumar also mentioned that many believe that most of the violators are food delivery workers who are in a rush to finish an order but actually, many are IT employees. He adds “Earlier, the traffic police used to stand at the junction for long hours, and still, people would find a way to violate, but this new idea might work.”
Mahadevapura traffic police Inspector Ramesh R told Indian Express, “We are just experimenting with this initiative to see if the riders become more conscious about the road safety and traffic rules. We send the list of violations by the riders to the companies on WhatsApp. We also issue online challans, not spot fines for violations.”
