Porsche India has introduced an Assured Buy-Back Programme that guarantees customers a pre-determined resale value of up to 70 per cent on eligible models after 36 months, addressing one of the more persistent concerns for luxury car buyers in India: unpredictable depreciation.
The scheme, run in association with a preferred financing partner, applies to private buyers of the Cayenne, Macan Electric and Taycan. Under its terms, Porsche fixes a future value for the vehicle at the point of sale. If the car's actual resale value at the end of the three-year period falls short of this figure, the programme covers the difference, insulating the owner from market swings.
Ashutosh Dixit, Head of Porsche India, said the initiative was intended to give customers "greater peace of mind" and the flexibility "to continue their journey with the Porsche brand." He added that it reflected the company's effort to support customers "during their ownership journey."
The move comes as depreciation remains a significant, if rarely advertised, cost of luxury car ownership in India. High import duties, a thin resale market for premium marques, and the rapid pace of model updates have historically made resale values harder to predict than in more mature markets. For buyers weighing a six-figure-dollar purchase, that uncertainty can influence the decision as much as the sticker price itself.
Buy-back and guaranteed-value schemes are well established in Europe, where they help manufacturers retain customers within their own ecosystem — an owner who trades in a car for its assured value is more likely to buy the next one from the same brand. Porsche's introduction of the concept in India signals a maturing local market, where volumes, though still modest by mass-market standards, have grown steadily on the back of demand for the Macan and, more recently, electric models such as the Taycan.
The inclusion of the Macan Electric alongside petrol-powered models such as the Cayenne is notable. Electric vehicles in the premium segment have faced particular scepticism over resale value, given uncertainties around battery life and the pace of technological change. A guaranteed buy-back could ease some of that hesitation, offering EV buyers a financial safety net that has not typically existed in the Indian market.
For Porsche, the programme also strengthens its case for structured ownership products at a time when several luxury manufacturers in India are expanding subscription, leasing and finance offerings to widen their customer base beyond outright buyers. By tying the guarantee to a three-year window — a common upgrade cycle for luxury buyers — the company appears to be positioning the scheme as much as a retention tool as a customer benefit.
Porsche said the programme would form part of a broader push to extend its ownership proposition beyond the point of sale, though it did not disclose volume targets or financial details of the arrangement with its partner.
