Gadget and accessories company Portronics has launched a new 200W car inverter called Zaptor, with two AC sockets, two USB Type-C ports and two USB Type-A ports. The company says it is intended for use on long drives and work trips, allowing anyone to keep their digital devices such as laptops, cameras, smartphones, and accessories powered and charged while in their car.
The Zaptor plugs into any car’s 12V power outlet. All six ports can be used simultaneously. The USB Type-C ports support USB-PD for fast charging, at 20W maximum output each, while the USB Type-A ports can deliver up to 36W each, for broader compatibility with portable devices.
The AC sockets are designed to accommodate plugs that are standard in various different countries across the world, and the voltage range is 110-220V, suitable for travelers.
However, Portronics cautions against using this device for medical equipment, sensitive measuring tools that require a precise electrical frequency, and heavy-duty appliances such as heaters, kettles, cookers, and TVs.
The device is officially priced at ₹2,499 in India, and buyers will get a 12-month warranty. It is available on the official Portronics website and on major e-commerce websites as well as authorised offline stores.
Features include real-time input voltage monitoring and display. There’s also multi-layer power protection including overcharge, overload, low voltage, high voltage, and short circuit prevention, plus temperature monitoring. There’s a master cut-off switch, and total output is 200W across all outlets although this might be limited by how much a car is rated to output. The unit is built out of fire-resistant plastic.
