Bajaj produces 400cc engines for KTM, Triumph and now the Pulsar brand
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing director, Bajaj Auto, at the launch of the Pulsar NS400Z, said “BJP has a double engine ki sarkaar. Ours is a double engine ka karobaar” stating how the company makes 400cc engines for both Triumph and KTM, apart from the 373cc motors for Dominar 400 and the Pulsar NS400Z. Now, Bajaj also makes another 400cc engine for the Triumph Speed but it’s a different unit altogether (398cc). And also a 399cc engine for the new 390 Duke.

There is of course sharing of expertise to make the engine more frugal and fun as well, but Bajaj has a clear intention of approaching this aspect. The relationship with Triumph is a relatively new one, but the partnership does not involve any equity, rather a strong manufacturing and distribution business model and Bajaj’s focus has not wavered.
Bajaj’s relationship with KTM is now over 16 years old and it was in 2007 that the Indian automobile manufacturer bought 14 per cent stake in the Austrian-based bike maker and the partnership between both the companies has strengthened over the years, with Bajaj manufacturing the bigger bikes as well as also its stake in KTM.
Bajaj clearly knows how to balance relationships and also creating a path to achieve higher standards when it comes to manufacturing. The partnerships, certainly help in both aspects and we can’t wait to see how the Pulsar NS400Z performs in terms of sales given its aggressive introductory price of ₹ 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom).
