The Chennai Design Centre represents a significant investment of Rs. 177.27 crore by Qualcomm.
Qualcomm has further solidified its presence in India with the launch of a new design centre in Chennai. The cutting-edge facility was inaugurated on Thursday by Union Minister for Information and Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, accompanied by Qualcomm's President and CEO Cristiano R. Amon.
The Chennai Design Centre represents a significant investment of Rs. 177.27 crore (approximately $21.6 million) by Qualcomm and is expected to generate employment opportunities for up to 1,600 skilled technology professionals. The state-of-the-art design facility will specialize in wireless connectivity solutions, with a particular emphasis on driving innovations that complement Wi-Fi technologies.
"The Chennai team has been instrumental for the leadership position in wireless communications, especially in Wi-Fi and broadband technologies, and we're very happy to continue to work here", stated CEO Cristiano Amon."
"PM Shri @narendramodi Ji's vision is to develop complete semiconductor ecosystem. Today one more building block – Qualcomm semiconductor design center inaugurated in Chennai. Thank you Mr. @cristianoamon and special thanks for showing up in Indian traditional attire," Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw posted on X.
In addition to the Chennai Design Centre, Qualcomm announced its support for a 6G University Research program in India. This initiative aims to foster academic research and leadership in emerging 6G technologies, further bolstering the nation's position as a global technology hub.
