Tata Motors’ Chief Technology Officer Rajendra Petkar will leave Tata Motors after nearly 38 years, Autocar Professional reported. Petkar’s career at the automaker witnessed a period of significant change in India’s automotive industry. When he joined the company, then known as Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), as a Post Graduate Trainee Engineer after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, the industry relied heavily on licensed technology, faced steep import tariffs and was characterised by relatively simple mechanical systems.

Now, Petkar prepares to conclude his nearly 38-year tenure as President and Chief of Emerging Mobility & Technology Strategy at the end of this month, and he leaves behind an organisation that has undergone a substantial transformation.

Tata Motors has developed into a major intellectual property holder, established a strong position in mass-market electric vehicles (EVs) and set benchmarks in vehicular crash safety in developing markets.
