The new Renault Duster Hybrid will deliver a claimed fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl, nearly 10 kmpl more than turbo petrol engine options.

Nearly 10 months since its debut, the Renault Duster Hybrid will be finally launched in India tomorrow, October 17, 2026. The new-generation Duster made its debut amidst much fanfare on January 26, and the hybrid version was one of the three powertrain options promised. While the 1.3-litre turbo and 1.0-litre turbo are already available, the hybrid variant promises impressive fuel economy as well as power and torque figures. With the launch just hours away, here’s what you should expect from the Renault Duster Hybrid.

Power on the Renault Duster E-Tech 160 will come from the all-new 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack. The engine will be assisted by two electric motors, one making about 19.7 bhp that acts as a generator, while the second motor makes 48 bhp and will drive the wheels. The engine and electric motors work together to generate a combined output of 160 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. The powertrain comes with a multi-mode automatic gearbox with fixed ratios. The automaker is pitching the strong hybrid powertrain as a replacement to diesel in its portfolio. Notably, Renault does not retail diesel engines in India anymore.

Renault has already announced the fuel efficiency figures on the Duster Hybrid with a claimed 29 kmpl on offer. Just for perspective, the Duster 1.0 manual offers a fuel efficiency of 19.41 kmpl, while the 1.3-litre turbo petrol offers a claimed mileage of 17.75 kmpl on the manual and 18.45 kmpl on the DCT automatic.

Visually, there won’t be any changes to the Duster Hybrid over the turbo petrol versions. The SUV is expected to get the E-Tech 160 badging on the tailgate. The cabin will be carried over including the feature stack, comprising dual screens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, electronic parking brake, a panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, and more.

The compact SUV segment already has a few strong hybrid options, including the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Grand Vitara, as well as the Toyota Hyryder, all of which use a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid engine with a 0.60 kWh battery pack.

The Renault Duster is priced from ₹10.49 lakh, going up to ₹18.69 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the hybrid version to start somewhere around the ₹19 lakh mark. Pre-bookings have already commenced for a token amount of ₹21,000, while deliveries are set to begin soon after the launch right in time for the festive season.
