Renault India Resumes Sri Lanka Exports With Triber, Kwid and Kiger

Renault India has resumed vehicle exports to Sri Lanka, in a bid to expand its international export footprint to 16 countries, the automaker announced on Friday. The first shipment of 100 vehicles, comprising the all-new Renault Triber, Kwid and Kiger, has left Chennai, thus, marking Renault’s return to the Sri Lankan market.

The French automaker is re-entering Sri Lanka through a partnership with AMW Motors, a major automotive distributor in the country. The partnership is likely to support Renault’s renewed commercial operations while providing a local base for the automaker to develop its business in the market.

The vehicles destined for Sri Lanka are being manufactured at Renault India’s production facility in Oragadam, Chennai. 

The plant caters to both the domestic market and overseas destinations.

“The resumption of exports to Sri Lanka is an important step in our international growth journey. We see significant potential to expand the reach of vehicles engineered and manufactured in India, while strengthening India’s role as an export base for Renault. Our focus is to build sustainable markets over the long term, supported by strong local partnerships and a product portfolio suited to customer needs," Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Renault India, said in a statement.

The return to Sri Lanka also comes at a time when the firm plans to expand the product line-up.

Renault India is mulling to introduce the New Duster in the market over time, adding a larger SUV to the Triber, Kwid and Kiger range.

The broader portfolio is expected to allow Renault to address more vehicle segments as it works to rebuild its commercial presence in Sri Lanka.

Renault’s renewed Sri Lanka programme adds another destination to an export network that has grown from its Indian manufacturing base. The company has shipped nearly 200,000 vehicles from India to international markets thus far.

South Africa and Saudi Arabia are among the destinations supplied from India, along with several other overseas markets.

For Renault India, the latest export move reinforces the role of its Chennai manufacturing operations beyond domestic sales.
