Royal Enfield’s Chief of Design, Mark Wells, did mention just how versatile the Sherpa 450 platform really is.
Royal Enfield has been one of the masters of the platform-sharing business. Right from its J-series line-up to its 650 cc parallel-twin motorcycles, the brand has ushered in numerous possibilities and designs. And the same holds true for the new Sherpa 450 platform that debuted with the second-generation Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and has been carried forward with the newly launched Guerrilla 450. And, in a typical Royal Enfield fashion, the 450 series will not stop at just two models. There could be a supermoto, cafe racer or a scrambler incoming.
When we spoke to Mark Wells, Royal Enfield’s Chief of Design, during the Guerrilla 450 launch in Spain, he had cited just how versatile the 450 platform was intended to be. He has also mentioned the possibility of a ‘sports bike’ on the very same platform to an international publication, but in most likelihood it is rather befitting to make it like a very classy cafe racer. If we do end up with something that looks like a MV Agusta Super Veloce-styled bike that will be affordable to the masses, we shall be much glad.
At the moment, Royal Enfield is gearing up to launch the updated Royal Enfield Classic 350, which will be followed by the launch of its first 650 cc scrambler, i.e. the Interceptor Bear 650. Additionally, work on its 650 cc adventure bike has also commenced. So, we already have several new motorcycles awaiting launch, and with this new proposition, Royal Enfield’s future couldn’t have been any brighter.
