This custom built Royal Enfield Bear 650 aims to be the perfect desert racer.
If you thought the Royal Enfield Bear 650 was not scrambler-y enough, which, to be honest, it isn't, then meet the Fuel Fury 650. Custom-built by Barcelona-based Fuel Motorcycles, this hardcore scrambler is the stuff that desert racers dream of. What stands out the most here is how the folks at Fuel Motorcycles have beautifully amalgamated Royal Enfield’s dirt racing history from the 60s, and at the same time have kept the bike’s modern appeal intact.
So, mechanically it continues to be powered by the same 648 cc, parallel-twin mill churning out the same 46.8 bhp and 56.5 Nm of peak torque. But the exhaust has been swapped for a custom free flow exhaust. Similarly, the skid plate, handguards, footpegs and the tank grips are also all new.
Notable hardware upgrades on the Fuel Fury 650 that make this bike a more superior off-roader include new suspension components with full adjustability. The 19-/17-inch wheel combination has also been revised for 21-inch wheel and 17-inch rear tubeless cross spoke wheels, and they are shod with Mitas off-road tyres. But the best part has to be the new dual-headlight setup that gives the bike a completely new identity. Plus the fully digital instrument cluster has been replaced for a navigation setup with GPS and rally controls — typical on a modern rally bike.
Complimenting this rugged outlook is that bright white-red livery. The bike is a direct tribute to the Fury 500 that American racer Eddie Mulder raced back in the 1960s. The “In Gut We Trust” logo on the fuel tank acts as the cherry on top of the cake, displaying the kind of performance and capability the Fuel Fury 650 has.
If there were a neo-retro racing class at the Dakar rally, Royal Enfield would definitely put this into action. But instead, the Himalayan 450 platform will spawn a proper racer, with CS Santosh at the helm. More details here.
