Royal Enfield pulled quite the surprise with the launch of the new Classic 650. Contrary to our predictions, the Chennai-based bike maker has launched its sixth 650 cc offering in the country starting at ₹3.37 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). Which we earlier thought would be exactly the opposite and that it would slot above the Shotgun 650 (starts from ₹3.60 lakh, ex-showroom, Chennai) and Bear 650 (starts from ₹3.40 lakh, ex-showroom, Chennai).
The newly launched Royal Enfield Classic 650 will be available in four variants, characterised by four different colour options. With the entry-level price, the Classic 650 can be had in either Vallam Red or the BruntingThorpe Blue. If you're a fan of that Teal shade, then the Classic 650 will set you back by ₹3.41 lakh. Lastly, with the Black Chrome option, the Classic 650 costs the most at ₹3.50 lakh (all ex-showroom prices, Chennai).

Being built around the same 650 platform, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 carries forward the well-established 648 cc, parallel-twin mill. Performance has remained the same wherein the engine churns out 46.35 bhp and 52 Nm, transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox.
The styling might look a lot like the Classic 350, but in the real world, it looks beefy and bulky. The framework is shared with the Shotgun 650 wherein the suspension, brake components, and the main chassis are all the same. Yet the Classic 650 is the heaviest bike in RE’s portfolio and it tips the scales at 243 kg. Lastly, RE has also equipped the roadster with MRF Nylohigh tyres, which are specifically developed for this bike. On the features front, it carries forward the same analogue instrument console as seen on the Classic 350, plus those “Tiger Lamps” surrounding the headlight console, as well. The headlight and taillight get LED units, while the turn indicators are again using bulb units.
