The Royal Enfield Himlayan recently completed ten years in the market with the first-gen model launched in 2016 and the second-gen model in 2023.
Royal Enfield has hit a new milestone, with the Himalayan 450 logging its strongest year yet. The adventure tourer has reported an annual sales growth of more than 53 percent outside India. The Chennai-based bikemaker says the model is now the best-selling adventure motorcycle in its class in India and Brazil.
First launched in 2016, the Himalayan was originally positioned as Royal Enfield’s entry into the 400 cc segment, but with a very different brief. Rather than chasing outright performance, it was designed as a practical, all-purpose adventure motorcycle capable of handling highways, city roads and rough terrain with similar ease. That philosophy has helped it build a distinct identity over time.
The Himalayan’s evolution has been steady. The original model established the foundation, while the new Himalayan 450, introduced in 2023 and powered by the Sherpa engine, gave the platform a more modern and capable refresh. Royal Enfield says the platform sold over 9,600 units in 2023, before annual global sales crossed 38,000 units this year. This platform was further extended with the launch of Guerrilla 450 in July 2024.
The company also used the launch of the Himalayan Mana Black in 2025 to add momentum to the lineup. Inspired by Mana Pass, one of the world’s toughest high-altitude routes, the special edition appears aimed at riders who want the adventure image without losing the everyday usability that has defined the nameplate.

Royal Enfield claims the Himalayan has maintained leadership in India’s mid-size adventure segment for a decade, while also gaining traction overseas. Brazil stands out as a major success story, where the model has emerged as the best-selling adventure motorcycle in its class. That matters because it points to a product that resonates beyond its home market and beyond the usual Royal Enfield buyer profile.
The brand’s statement also highlights how the motorcycle has been tested in the real world. The Himalayan has circumnavigated the globe multiple times and has been featured at major adventure motorcycling events, including the Adventure Bike Rider Festival. Such visibility helps reinforce the model’s image as a serious touring machine rather than just a lifestyle motorcycle.
The Himalayan continues to be the centre of focus for Royal Enfield as part of its broader adventure ecosystem. Initiatives such as the Himalayan Odyssey and Great Himalayan Exploration are designed to connect riders with the landscapes that inspired the bike in the first place.
