From a bigger engine with more power and torque, to new features, the Scram 440 debuts with quite a few improvements.
Royal Enfield’s Scram has grown up and gone are its 411 days, in comes the new Royal Enfield Scram 440. Unveiled in full glory at the ongoing Motoverse 2024, the new Scram 440 looks vibrant, has become more powerful, and packs in a fair bit of new tech as well. However, the basics are still the same, and Himalayan 411-derived frame and suspension components have remained untouched. Prices for the new Royal Enfield Scram 440 will be announced next year in January, and deliveries will commence soon after.
While the new Royal Enfield Scram 440 might look the same as before, but underneath, it packs a bigger 443 cc, single-cylinder engine. It’s the same 411 cc mill from before, but with a 3 mm bigger bore that measures 81 mm wide. This has helped bump up the performance as the new Scram 440’s mill produces 4.5 per cent more power and 8.5 per cent more torque than before. The output as a result stands at 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm at 4,000. The gearbox has also been altered for a 6-speed transmission.
Moving on, as mentioned above, the underpinnings of the bike have been untouched. So, the same 41 mm telescopic fork and monoshock with linkage continue, with the same 190 mm and 180 mm travel, respectively, as before. However, braking components have been updated. Royal Enfield hasn't changed the discs per se but the calipers are updated with larger pistons. Additionally, the bike is now also available with switchable ABS as standard, something that was direly needed in the Scram 411.
There are no new features as such on the Scram 440. The semi-digital analogue instrument cluster is the same as before. However, the headlight and taillight are both LED units, but the turn indicators are still bulb units. There is a USB type A charger available on board, and RE’s Tripped Pod navigation is also available, but as an option.
The Same Appeal
Amidst a sea of new bike launches, thankfully Royal Enfield has not changed the body design of the Scram 440. It continues to boast the same rugged and practical body design, which we loved so much when it debuted first with the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411. However, the Scram 440 looks more appealing than before, and that is mainly due to the new colour options, namely – Force Blue, Force Grey, Force Teal, Trail Green, and Trail Blue.
Lastly, the Royal Enfield Scram 440 will be available in two variants: Force and Trail. Besides, the different colour options are reserved with each variant, as mentioned above. Both will differ in terms of wheels, where the Trail variant will be available with spoke wheels with tubed tyres, and the Force variant will equip alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.
