Samsung has unveiled a new "retro" version of its Galaxy Z Flip5 that pays homage to Samsung's iconic E700 flip phone.
In a strategic move to solidify its market leadership amid intensifying competition from rivals such as OnePlus Open and the OPPO Find N3 Flip, Samsung has unveiled a new "retro" version of its Galaxy Z Flip5. This nostalgic iteration pays homage to Samsung's iconic E700 flip phone, a staple of mobile technology in the mid-2000s.
The Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro edition is offered in the same distinctive indigo blue and silver hues that graced the E700. Moreover, it features the pixel graphics user interface and cityscape animations on the external flex window cover screen, a nod to the technology of yesteryear. In a further tribute, the phone's packaging includes logos of both the Z Flip5 and the E700, along with Flipsuit cards adorned with stickers of vintage Samsung logos.
Rounding out the retro theme, each package includes a Samsung E700 iconic collector card engraved with a unique serial number.
Geared for limited markets, the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro edition will not see a launch in India. However, it is slated to be available in South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Australia, starting November 1. Prospective buyers should note that the phone will be exclusively sold via Samsung's e-commerce portal.
Beneath its retro exterior, the phone is anything but dated. It boasts a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset specifically designed for the Galaxy series and a 6.7-inch dynamic AMOLED flexible screen. In addition, it comes with IPX8 water resistance, setting what is considered to be a new industry benchmark for flip-style foldable smartphones.
Thus, Samsung's latest offering blends nostalgia with cutting-edge technology, a potent combination aimed at both captivating the audience and fortifying its position in the increasingly competitive foldable smartphone sector.
