Skoda launched a contest to engage the public in the naming process, narrowing it down to six final options.
Earlier this year, Skoda Auto India announced the development of a new subcompact SUV for the Indian market. Following this announcement, the company released teaser sketches, giving a glimpse of the front and rear profiles of the upcoming vehicle. This subcompact SUV is expected to be positioned below the Skoda Kushaq, serving as the brand's entry-level SUV offering in India. The unveiling of the SUV’s name, which has sparked considerable interest, is scheduled for August 21, 2024. Skoda launched a contest to engage the public in the naming process, narrowing down to six final options: Kyroq, Kwiq, Kylaq, Kosmiq, Kayaq, and Kliq.
Design-wise, the subcompact SUV is likely to follow Kushaq’s styling cues, including an LED headlight setup and L-shaped LED tail lights, based on recent teasers and spy shots. The vehicle is expected to be powered by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 113 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, similar to the Kushaq. Skoda plans to offer both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.

The new SUV is projected to hit the market by March 2025, with an estimated starting price of ₹8.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India). In terms of competition, the vehicle will go head-to-head with popular subcompact SUVs like the Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and newer entrants like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor.
