BMW Rolls Out New 7 Series Range in India, With i7 M70 as its Most Powerful Flagship Yet

BMW India has launched the facelifted 7 Series range in India, bringing its flagship sedan to local roads in both petrol and all-electric avatars — including the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, which the German carmaker describes as the most powerful 7 Series it has ever built. Prices start at ₹1.95 crore for both ICE and electric models.

The lineup spans the petrol-powered BMW 740, the electric i7 eDrive50, and the performance-oriented i7 M70 xDrive, giving BMW's "Power of Choice" philosophy a proper outing at the very top of its India portfolio. In a significant manufacturing milestone, India has now become the only country besides Germany where the BMW i7 is built locally, with production based out of the BMW Group Plant in Chennai.

Announcing the launch, Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, said the 7 Series facelift was "more than our flagship sedan," calling it the brand's "ultimate statement of modern luxury" aimed at "leaders, changemakers and visionaries." He added that the new range set a benchmark "whether you choose to take the wheel or be driven."

On design, the new 7 Series adopts BMW's Neue Klasse-inspired styling direction, with a monolithic front end anchored by the illuminated Iconic Glow kidney grille and BMW Individual crystal headlights featuring diamond-cut glass elements crafted by Swarovski. A newly designed, enlarged BMW badge with a matte finish sits prominently over the bonnet, while a fresh character line running from the front apron across the door sills lends the car a boat-tail-like profile from the rear three-quarter angle.

Inside, the cabin is built around the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system, which includes BMW Operating System X, a 17.9-inch Free-Cut Design curved central display, and BMW Panoramic Vision — a projection that spans the full width of the windscreen from pillar to pillar. The 7 Series is also the first BMW to feature a dedicated Passenger Screen, a 14.6-inch touchscreen that dims automatically if the driver's gaze strays towards it, sparing them the distraction. Rear passengers, meanwhile, get a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen that unfurls from the roof, paired with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system featuring Dolby Atmos, alongside Executive Lounge seating that reclines up to 43 degrees.

Under the skin, the petrol BMW 740 uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine producing 400hp and 540Nm, taking it from 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds. The electric i7 eDrive50 gets a reworked 112.5kWh battery good for 455hp, 660Nm and a WLTP range of 728 km — a jump of 125 km over the outgoing car and, BMW claims, best-in-class. Sitting atop the electric range is the i7 M70 xDrive, whose twin motors deliver a combined 680hp and up to 1,100Nm of torque with Launch Control or Sport Boost engaged, enough for a 3.8-second sprint to 100 kmph and a WLTP range of 686 km. Charging on a 250kW DC fast charger takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 28 minutes, while a 22kW AC wallbox — bundled free with the car — manages a full charge in roughly six hours.

The new 7 Series also gets an expanded driver-assistance suite as standard, including Parking Assistant Professional with remote smartphone parking and Reversing Assistant Professional, while the electric i7 adds Driving Assistant Plus with active cruise control, Stop&Go, steering and lane-control assistance, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW has also fitted radar-based automatic doors with a soft-close function — a first for any carmaker globally — along with an optional illuminated Sky Lounge panoramic sunroof.
