(L-R) Petr Janeba - Škoda India Brand Director, Klaus Zellmer, CEO, Skoda and MD & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India India Private Limited launch the new Kylaq subcompact SUV in India.
Skoda Auto India’s first-ever subcompact SUV, Kylaq, made its world debut in India. But the company dropped a bomb by announcing the base variant price of ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). So where does it stand when compared to its rivals? If we compare the base variant price of the Kylaq with its rivals, it is ₹40,000 more expensive than the Mahindra 3XO, ₹10,000 cheaper than the Sonet, ₹5000 more affordable than the Hyundai Venue and whooping ₹25,000 cheaper than the Tata Nexon and ₹45,000 more affordable than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
The company will begin pre-bookings for the Kylaq from December 2 with the launch expected in January when prices of all the variants will be announced. The deliveries for the car will begin on January 27, 2025.
The Kylaq does look like the younger brother of the Kushaq, and there is so much similarity there. But Skoda has tried to make it look unique. The lines on the side add to some muscle and the 3D elements on the front grille, do add a bit of finesse to the car. LED DRLs are standard on the car. The rear sees the new Skoda Wordmark and the crystalline LED tail lamps add a freshness to the overall look. The 17-inch wheels though add to the stance of the car and though it squats down, there’s ample ground clearance of 189 mm.
Dimensions | Skoda Kylaq |
---|---|
Length | 3995 mm |
Width | 1763 mm |
Height | 1619 mm |
Wheelbase | 2566 mm |
Ground Clearance | 189 mm |
The Skoda Kylaq will be available in just one 1-litre turbo petrol engine. This makes 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. It will be available in both manual and automatic transmission options and the company says that it will boast of a fuel efficiency figure of 20 kmpl.
On the base variant of the Kylaq, Skoda is offering, parking sensors, 6 airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts among other things. On the top-end variant, the company says it will have more features, but ADAS is not part of this, something that Skoda should have taken a little seriously, given that its rivals now have this technology.
