Bharat NCAP tested the top-spec Prestige MT variant but said the ratings apply to all variants of the Kylaq.
The Skoda Kylaq is the latest car to be tested by the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) scoring a perfect 5 stars in the crash test. BNCAP tested the top-spec Prestige MT variant but mentioned that the ratings apply to all variants of the subcompact SUV. The Kylaq received 5 stars for adult and child occupant protection tests.
Petr Janeba, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “We were the first brand to score a full 5 stars for adults and children under the Global NCAP tests. And now Kylaq, our all-new sub-4 metre SUV, has topped the charts in its segment, in the Bharat NCAP testing. The use of hot-stamped steel, with a redone crash management system ensures the best possible safety in the Kylaq. This rating is a further testament to our commitment of democratising European technology on Indian roads, which includes one of the foundations on which a car should be built, which is safety.”
This is the first time a Skoda India model has been crash-tested by India’s premier crash testing authority. In the adult occupant protection tests, the Kylaq scored 30.88 stars out of 32, while in the child occupant protection tests, it secured 45 points out of a total of 49.
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Kylaq managed to secure 15.04 points out of 16. BNCAP noted ‘good’ protection for both the front passengers, however, the driver’s chest and left tibia got ‘adequate’ protection. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it scored 15.834 points out of 16. BNCAP noted ‘good’ protection for the head, stomach and pelvic regions, while the chest only got ‘adequate’ protection. In the side impact pole test, the Kylaq received an 'OK' rating.
For the child occupant protection tests, the Skoda Kylaq got full points in the Dynamic and Child Restraint System (CRS) installation system, i.e., 24 out of 24 points and 12 out of 12 points, respectively. In the vehicle assessment test, the Kylaq secured 9 points out of a total of 12. As always, BNCAP tested the Kylaq with the dummies of 18-month-old and 3-year-old children.
The Kylaq comes with a host of safety features. It has six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, roll-over protection, hill hold control, three-point seatbelts with reminders for all seats and ISOFIX child seat mounts, among others.
