Audeze will continue to operate as an independent brand.
Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) has announced the acquisition of high-end gaming headphone maker Audeze in an effort to continue innovating the audio experience of PlayStation games.
Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Santa Ana, California, Audeze is known for its award-winning headphones that utilize patented planar magnetic driver technology to deliver superior sound quality. Audeze products are popular among audiophiles, recording professionals, and gamers.
According to a press release issued by Sony, Audeze will continue to operate as an independent brand and develop multi-platform products. The company will maintain its California offices and production facilities. Sony stated the acquisition will allow Audeze to benefit from being part of the PlayStation ecosystem.
"Sony Interactive provides Audeze with a unique opportunity to scale our business as we continue with our mission to deliver best-in-class headphones to recording professionals, audiophiles, and gamers. We're also looking forward to contributing to Sony Interactive's efforts to take PlayStation audio experiences to the next level," said Sankar Thiagasamudram, CEO at Audeze.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed due to contractual commitments, but the Audeze brand and product lineup will remain unchanged following the acquisition.
SIE highlighted Audeze's leading role in high-end audio technology for gaming as a key motivator behind the deal. It aims to leverage Audeze's innovative audio engineering capabilities to enhance the sound experience of PlayStation games and entertainment.
"We're excited to bring Audeze's expertise into the PlayStation ecosystem, building on the great strides we've made with PlayStation 5's Tempest 3D AudioTech and the Pulse 3D wireless headset," said Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Sony previously acquired audio technology companies such as 3D audio specialist AudioKinetic in 2019. With the addition of Audeze's expertise, Sony is strategically positioned to raise the bar for virtual surround sound in console gaming.
