Bajaj is slated to launch this new variant of the Chetak on December 20.
Ahead of its official launch on December 20, the new variant of the Bajaj Chetak just got spotted being tested on public roads, albeit with a few camouflaged parts. This new scooter has been touted to get Bajaj’s new battery pack that the Indian manufacturer has sourced from a different supplier. This new battery pack is denser and will be good for some additional range over its previous generation siblings. Making this new scooter more interesting will be its price tag, which is predicted to be affordable. This will be achieved if the battery pack is smaller. Currently, the 2.88 kWh battery pack is the smallest option that Bajaj has which is available with just the Chetak 2903 variant. The Chetak 2903 was launched this year and yes, it packs the new battery that Bajaj had sourced.
Despite its smaller size, the battery takes six hours to charge fully, and once charged it is good for an ARAI-certified range of 123 km. Tuned without many frills and ideally suited for urban runabouts, the Bajaj Chetak 2903 is good for a top speed of 63 kmph. Will Bajaj retain the same credentials with this upcoming scooter or not remains to be seen.
On the aesthetic front, the spied image reveals more or less the same design which is typical of the Chetak range Right from the apron design to the overall ergonomics. There are no dramatic changes as such as far as its looks are concerned. However, there might be newer and brighter colour options in the mix, perhaps some dual-tone shades too.
While the Bajaj Chetak has steadily and consistently expanded into several variants with this new battery packs, the 3.22 kWh being the other. That at the same time has also helped its case gain more market share this year. More so, Rajiv Bajaj even claimed that the Chetak is now the most-sold electric scooter, followed by a tongue-in-cheek quote — “Ola toh Ola hain, Chetak Shola hain” Read all about it here.
