This is one of the most affordable Steelbird helmets to come with DOT certification.
Steelbird has launched a new helmet called Tornado priced at ₹1,949. It is the first-of-its-kind Steelbird helmet at this price range to be available with both ISI and DOT certification. Steelbird also sells the SBH-32 ISS helmet, which gets both certifications as well, but it is priced at ₹4,399, plus GST. Just like the SBH-32, the Tornado is also a full-size helmet available in four sizes with the choice of different colour options.

The outer shell of the Tornado is made up of high-impact ABS shells, with reinforced fibreglass that helps meet DOT safety standards. The inner padding of the helmet is composed of multiple layers made up of high-density thermocol. Steelbird has installed a dual-visor system in the Tornado here, which includes an inner sun shield. Plus, the brand is also providing both regular and tinted visors as standard with the Tornado. As is the case with most DOT-certified helmets, the Tornado also gets a double D-ring system, which helps secure the helmet more effectively on the head.

This is the second helmet from Steelbird to launch this month after the SBH-23 AVA. The half-face helmet was launched at ₹1,299, and it was more about being comfortable during peak summer conditions. While it just came with ISI certification, the launch of a new helmet with the slightly stricter DOT certification is a welcome move from the brand. But given the fact that Steelbird broke the 8.7 million sales milestone in FY25, it’s high time that the brand focuses more of its resources on coming up with more reliable and safer options. Because with such sustained demand and a steady consumer base, Steelbird should have better and sturdy protective gear for the masses now.
