While specific models and pricing details are yet to be announced, Stellantis has indicated that the vehicles brought to India will be tailored to meet the expectations of Indian consumers.
Global automotive group Stellantis has announced plans to introduce the Leapmotor electric vehicle (EV) brand to India. The announcement comes as India continues to position itself as a key player in the global EV transition, supported by favourable government policies and increasing consumer demand for cleaner transportation alternatives. Leapmotor, a Chinese EV company, has gained traction in recent years for its technology-focused, low-emission vehicles. In 2024, the company delivered close to 300,000 vehicles globally, nearly doubling its year-on-year growth. Its entry into India under Stellantis’ leadership aligns with the group’s broader mission to advance low-carbon mobility across international markets.

Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, confirmed the development, highlighting the group’s strategic focus on the Indian market. “We’re excited to announce the entry of Leapmotor brand in India, thereby strengthening our commitment to the market,” Hazela said. “We already have a strong presence in India with our Jeep and Citroën brands, and we deeply understand the strategic importance and immense potential that the Indian market holds.”
The decision to launch Leapmotor in India comes on the heels of a growing EV push by major automakers in the country. Stellantis emphasised that Leapmotor’s emphasis on innovation, customer satisfaction, and quality aligns with its long-term vision of making electric mobility more accessible and efficient. “Globally, Leapmotor is redefining electric mobility with a strong focus on innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction,” Hazela added.

While specific models and pricing details are yet to be announced, Stellantis has indicated that the vehicles brought to India will be tailored to meet the expectations of “upwardly mobile” Indian consumers, with an emphasis on smart technology, sustainability, and comfort. Globally, Leapmotor retails EVs such as the small sized T03 hatchback, B10 mid-sized SUV, C11 SUV, C01 sedan, C10 mid-sized SUV, and a full sized C16 electric SUV.
Stellantis currently operates in India through its Jeep and Citroën brands, and the addition of Leapmotor is expected to diversify its product offering in the EV segment. The move comes amid rising competition in the Indian EV market, with players such as Tata Motors, Mahindra Electric, MG Motor, BYD, and global entrants like Tesla and VinFast expanding their footprint.
