The GSX-8R takes the fight head on to the new Triumph Daytona 660
After teasing its arrival on social media, Suzuki has gone ahead and launched the brand new GSX-8R sportbike at a delightful ₹9.25 lakh (ex-showroom India). The middleweight sportbike undercuts its chief rival – the Triumph Daytona 660 – by nearly ₹50,000. The bike will retail from all of Suzuki’s premium “Suzuki Bike Zone” outlets in India and should be available for delivery very soon.
This is the second bike on Suzuki’s 776 cc parallel-twin engine platform in India, after the V-Strom 800DE arrived a few months ago. Both of the bikes were initially showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo in early-2024 and we are glad that Suzuki is getting its big bikes to our shores. What it is also managing to do is price the bikes neatly, unlike some of its Japanese compatriots.
The GSX-8R continues to ride the same engine tune as its ADV sibling, making 83 bhp and 78 Nm. It is packaged in the same trellis frame and should still be a sweet and torquey engine. However, we expect it to be a bit more peppy than the V-Strom, considering it doesn’t have to lug around that much heft.
Suspending the frame are Showa suspension components with lightweight 17-inch alloys arrive with Dunlop RoadSport 2 radial tyres. Nissin braking hardware anchors the bike while dual-channel ABS remains present. Head here to read more about the Japanese sportbike.
The arrival of the GSX-8R should bode well for sportbike enthusiasts in the country. Given that it isn’t an all-out track-focused crotch rocket but actually something that can be ridden on a daily basis, it should have a fair few takers. After all, Honda tasted much success with the CBR650R and this Suzuki is in a similar vein. We hope to ride this sportbike soon and bring you all the dope on it.
