Moreover, the brand’s first electric scooter will feature a fixed battery design.
After showcasing the Burgman electric scooter almost a year ago, Suzuki is expected to finally begin production of its first electric scooter in India from December onwards. Moreover, this upcoming electric two-wheeler from the Japanese brand will feature a fixed battery design. Thereby, the brand’s debut electric offering might not be the electric Burgman, which featured a swappable battery design.
Reports have stated that Suzuki plans to manufacture 25,000 units of this upcoming electric scooter, annually, which is currently codenamed XF091. As far as its design is concerned, the scooter is expected to look atypically like a family scooter, more on the lines of the Access 125, unlike the maxi-scooter design of the Burgman. But details about the same are still under wraps. Having said that, whether Suzuki sticks with the Access-type platform or will indeed launch a modified version of the Burgman electric scooter for India remains to be seen.
So, as part of that requirement, we further expect Suzuki’s upcoming electric scooter might be powered by a 3 – 4 kWh battery, which will be good for at least 100 km of range. Being a commuter-oriented product, Suzuki’s first electric scooter will not be a performance-oriented product and thereby its top speed could be under 90 kmph, which is fine for commuting.
Suzuki is late to the whole ‘electric’ party, especially when you compare it with the likes of Indian manufacturers like Bajaj, TVS, and Hero. However, it will be the first Japanese in the Indian market with an all-electric offering, something that both Honda and Yamaha have strayed away from. However, there are reports that Honda might launch the Activa electric scooter by late 2024.
