Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, has announced that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI will be released by autumn 2025. The news came as Take-Two reported its fourth-quarter earnings, revealing a significant loss of $2.9 billion between January and March.
The company's most recent guidance had projected a loss between $170 and $153 million. Take-Two disclosed that the Q4 loss included a $2.18 billion goodwill charge, a $304.3 million expense for acquisition-related charges, and a restructuring cost of $93.3 million.
The Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, released in December, broke the record for the most-viewed trailer launch on YouTube, generating over 93 million views within the first 24 hours. This surpassed the previous record for a non-music video debut on the platform. Within 72 hours, the trailer had accumulated 120 million views, and creator-generated content surrounding the video had garnered over 250 million views.
Leo Olebe, global head of YouTube Gaming, commented on the series' impact, stating, "The Grand Theft Auto series has been at the epicentre of entertainment for decades, and we expect the YouTube community and its creators to reach new heights for years to come with Grand Theft Auto VI. Setting this new all-time record is a testament to the cultural impact of the series and demonstrates why YouTube is the leading destination for gaming content and pop culture."
The trailer also had a posthumous impact on the music industry, with Tom Petty's 1989 solo track "Love Is A Long Road" from his album Full Moon Fever entering the Billboard Top 10 at number 7. The legendary rock and country musician, who passed away in 2017, saw a 37,000% spike in popularity for the track on Spotify following the trailer's release, further highlighting the cultural significance of the gaming franchise.
