Tata Aeris India Launch Tomorrow: What to Expect

Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Aeris sedan in India tomorrow. It is a heavily updated replacement for the Tigor, and will continue to be a sub-four-metre vehicle.

Moving away from the Tigor moniker, which struggled to capture a decent market share, the Aeris represents a strategic repositioning for the brand in India. The existing Tigor nameplate is expected to be phased out shortly after the Aeris makes its official market entry.

Design-wise, Tata is giving the Aeris a distinct visual identity to differentiate it from its hatchback sibling. Where the Tigor looked like a Tiago with an attached boot, the Aeris will feature a bespoke front bumper to deliver a more exclusive road presence. There will be new connected LED tail lamps at the back as well.

Inside, recent teasers reveal a revamped cabin layout that mirrors the design language of the updated Tiago but introduces a different interior colour scheme. The equipment list is expected to match its hatchback counterpart, however, a handful of additional features could be offered to give the Aeris a more premium market positioning.

Mechanically, the Aeris will carry forward the familiar 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine from the Tiago, offered with a choice of a five-speed manual transmission and an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). While enthusiasts might hope for a more potent 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine option, its inclusion remains unlikely, unless Tata decides to surprise us all.

The all-electric Aeris EV variant could be unveiled alongside the petrol model, despite not appearing in preliminary teasers. Then, the petrol-CNG option could also be carried over from the Tiago.

The Tata Aeris will enter a shrinking subcompact sedan market, continuing to go head-to-head with established rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze.
