Here’s how the Tata Curvv stacks up against its rivals in terms of design, specifications, and pricing.
The Indian car market is witnessing a dynamic shift, particularly in the compact SUV segment, which continues to attract significant consumer interest. Recent additions to this segment underscore a growing trend toward coupe-styled SUVs, with the Tata Curvv and Citroën Basalt leading this charge. The introduction of the Tata Curvv in its ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) variant marks the 11th official entrant in this fiercely competitive market. Here’s how the Tata Curvv stacks up against its rivals in terms of design, specifications, and pricing.
One of the most striking aspects of the Tata Curvv is its coupe-style design, which sets it apart from traditional compact SUVs. The Curvv, with its sleek lines and dynamic proportions, exudes a fresh and contemporary aesthetic that is likely to appeal to design-conscious buyers. This design philosophy mirrors the growing trend in India towards coupe SUVs, a segment that balances the practicality of an SUV with the sporty appeal of a coupe.
The Citroën Basalt also caters to this emerging preference for coupe-styled SUVs, although Tata seems to have an edge with the Curvv’s more aggressive stance and modern styling. This design-led approach could potentially sway buyers looking for a vehicle that not only performs well but also stands out on the road.
Pricing is a critical factor in the Indian automotive market, and Tata Motors appears to have nailed the pricing strategy with the Curvv. The Curvv’s introductory price starts at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), which is competitive, especially when compared to rivals like the Citroën Basalt and MG Astor, both of which are priced around ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing makes the Curvv an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers who do not want to compromise on style or features.

When it comes to petrol automatic variants, Tata Curvv further strengthens its value proposition. The Curvv’s petrol automatic variant is priced at ₹12.49 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting competitors like the Citroën Basalt and C3 Aircross, which are also known for their aggressive pricing. This makes the Curvv a compelling choice for those seeking an affordable automatic SUV without sacrificing key features.
The Tata Curvv joins the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta as one of the few compact SUVs offering a diesel engine option in the segment. Notably, the Curvv’s diesel variant is priced attractively, undercutting its rivals by approximately ₹1 lakh for manual variants and around ₹3 lakh for automatic variants. This aggressive pricing, combined with the availability of a more advanced 7-speed DCA (Dual Clutch Automatic) with the diesel engine, positions the Curvv as a strong contender for buyers prioritising diesel powertrains.
Interestingly, Curvv’s competitive pricing extends beyond just the entry-level models. Tata Motors has yet to announce the prices for its mid and higher-end trims, or “personas,” as they are referred to by Tata. However, if the introductory pricing strategy is any indication, Tata is likely to continue offering compelling value across the Curvv lineup.
In terms of dimensions, the Tata Curvv’s size is closely aligned with its electric counterpart, the Curvv EV. Internally, the Curvv feels more akin to a sub-compact SUV like the Tata Nexon rather than a full-fledged C-segment compact SUV. However, the Curvv does boast the largest boot capacity in its segment, offering 500 litres of space, which is a significant advantage for buyers seeking practicality.
When comparing external dimensions, the Curvv holds its own. The Kia Seltos and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder are the longest in this segment, while the Tata Curvv and MG Astor are the widest, with the Curvv having a slight edge by just 1 mm. The Citroën C3 Aircross, with its three-row seating layout, is the tallest, offering additional headroom, and also features the longest wheelbase, enhancing passenger comfort.

The Tata Curvv, along with the Kia Seltos, is one of the few compact SUVs in this segment to offer 18-inch alloy wheels, a feature typically reserved for more premium models. This gives the Curvv a more imposing stance on the road, although it’s worth noting that none of the SUVs in this segment offer tyres wider than 215-section. In contrast, the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun come with smaller 205-section tyres, which might not appeal to enthusiasts seeking a sportier driving experience.
Ground clearance is another area where the Curvv performs well, though it doesn’t lead the pack. The Honda Elevate offers the highest ground clearance at 220 mm, which is particularly appealing for Indian road conditions. On the other end of the spectrum, the Citroën Basalt has the lowest ground clearance at 180 mm, which could be a concern for buyers prioritising off-road capability.
