The Lucknow facility of Tata Motors is said to support over 8,000 employment opportunities.
Tata Motors has reached a major production milestone at its commercial vehicle facility in Lucknow, rolling out the 10th lakh vehicle from the plant. The achievement also marks more than 35 years of the company’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, where the facility has played a steady role in manufacturing, skill development and local employment generation.
The milestone vehicle was a zero-emission electric bus, underlining the company’s focus on cleaner mobility as India’s transport sector moves toward more efficient and lower-emission solutions. The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, along with Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Tata Motors Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh, government officials and senior company leaders.

Established in 1992, the Lucknow plant has developed into one of Tata Motors’ most important commercial vehicle manufacturing centres. Spread across roughly 600 acres, the facility produces trucks and buses across multiple powertrains, including zero-emission electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles. Tata Motors said the plant has an annual production capacity of over one lakh vehicles and also supplies products to international markets.
The company has positioned the facility as a hub that combines scale with manufacturing quality, safety and operational efficiency. That focus has helped the plant serve both domestic mobility requirements and export demand, while also reinforcing Tata Motors’ wider commercial vehicle strategy.
Beyond manufacturing output, Tata Motors highlighted the plant’s role in supporting livelihoods and building skills. The Lucknow facility is said to support over 8,000 employment opportunities and has contributed to a broader supplier ecosystem that benefits MSMEs and ancillary industries across Uttar Pradesh and beyond.

The company also pointed to a strong emphasis on inclusion. Women make up a significant part of the workforce, and the facility has also created employment opportunities for persons with disabilities from across the state. In addition, Tata Motors has run training and skilling programmes such as Kaushalya, Lakshya and Saksham, alongside apprenticeship initiatives and its Dual System of Training model. These efforts have helped thousands of young people build industry-relevant skills and prepare for formal employment.
Tata Motors said the Lucknow facility is designed around environmental stewardship and responsible industrialisation. The plant is CII-certified water positive and operates on 100% renewable electricity. It also makes use of Digital and Industry 4.0 technologies, including automation, robotics and AI-enabled systems, to improve safety, quality and resource efficiency.
According to the company, these measures make the plant a model for future-ready manufacturing that balances productivity with sustainability. That balance is likely to become even more important as commercial vehicle makers adapt to changing regulations, customer expectations and cleaner transport goals.
Tata Motors described the 10 lakh vehicle milestone as a reflection of its long-standing partnership with Uttar Pradesh. The company said it remains committed to contributing to the state’s industrial growth and to building a more sustainable mobility ecosystem as it advances toward its net-zero target for 2045.
