Tata Motors rolled out the first locally assembled Range Rover Evoque from luxury brand JLR at the new greenfield manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The new plant will play a pivotal role for future Tata and JLR vehicles.
Tata Motors has announced the commencement of operations at its new Tamil Nadu facility. The automaker rolled out the first locally assembled Range Rover Evoque from luxury brand JLR (Jaguar Land Rover), marking a new chapter for the auto giant. The new manufacturing plant is located in Panapakkam, Ranipet, in Tamil Nadu, and is a greenfield facility for producing the next generation of vehicles, including EVs for Tata Motors and JLR. The new facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru MK Stalin and N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.
Tata Motors has invested ₹9,000 crore in the facility, which will support the automaker’s long-term ambitions. The new plant has the potential to create over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while supporting the growth of an ancillary ecosystem. Tata’s new Panapakkam facility will reach an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles per annum with production scaling up in a phased manner over the next 5-7 years. The new facility will be manufacturing vehicles for domestic and international markets.

Speaking at the inauguration, Thiru MK Stalin, Chief Minister - Tamil Nadu, said, “Tata Group has long played a pivotal role in nation building and shares a deep, historic partnership with Tamil Nadu. With the commencement of operations at this new manufacturing facility and the rollout of the first Range Rover Evoque in Panapakkam, Ranipet, the state is proud to witness the expansion of world class automotive manufacturing. Tamil Nadu welcomes this significant milestone and remains committed to supporting industries that create jobs, drive innovation, and reinforce our position as India’s leading hub for manufacturing and mobility.”
Speaking on the occasion, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, said, “The inauguration of our Panapakkam facility marks a significant milestone in the Tata Group’s journey to accelerate India’s leadership in sustainable and futureready manufacturing. We are also proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu, a state that continues to drive industrial excellence, innovation, and inclusive growth. With this facility, we look forward to producing vehicles of exceptional quality, craftsmanship, and technology for customers in India and around the world.”
The Range Rover Evoque was locally assembled in India at the automaker’s Ranjangaon facility, which has now been shifted to the new Tamil Nadu facility. That said, the Range Rover LWB and Range Rover Sport will continue to be locally assembled at the Ranjangaon facility for now, before being moved to the new Tamil Nadu plant. The new facility also holds significant importance for Tata Motors with the automaker likely to rollout the new Avinya sub-brand models in the future.

Furthermore, Tata Motors has announced the beginning of ‘Lakshya Programme’, which enables shop-floor technicians to earn and learn on the job. The new initiative offers technicians the opportunity to learn engineering and management skills by enrolling for educative programmes. Moreover, employees have the opportunity to earn a company-sponsored B-Tech degree from a renowned university while they work. The company says its technicians have been selected via a rigorous process from polytechnics, and have completed five months of intensive, hands-on training at JLR facilities.
