Tata Motors reported a 49 per cent hike in year-on-year sales for commercial vehicle sales in August 2026, backed by strong domestic demand and a sharp rise in exports. The automaker sold 44,411 commercial vehicles across domestic and international markets last month, when compared with 29,863 units in August 2025. Domestic commercial vehicle sales rose 33 per cent year-on-year to 36,619 units in August, against 27,481 units during the same month last year. On the other hand, exports recorded a much sharper increase as international sales tripled to 7,792 units in August 2026 from 2,382 units a year earlier, marking a whopping 227 per cent year-on-year growth.
The heavy commercial vehicle segment remained a key driver of Tata Motors’ domestic performance. HCV truck sales increased 42 per cent year-on-year to 10,612 units in August, compared with 7,451 units in August 2025. Sales of intermediate, light and medium commercial vehicle trucks rose 20 per cent to 6,859 units from 5,711 units during the same period. The company’s passenger carrier business also registered growth, with sales rising 31 per cent year-on-year to 4,701 units from 3,577 units. In the small commercial vehicle cargo and pickup segment, Tata Motors sold 14,447 units in August, up 34 per cent from 10,742 units a year earlier.
Tata Motors’ domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, stood at 17,531 units in August 2026. This was a 31 per cent increase over the 13,405 units sold in August last year. Including international business, sales in the MH&ICV segment rose 29 per cent year-on-year to 18,920 units from 14,667 units.
The August performance follows a strong July for Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle business. The company had reported a 37 per cent year-on-year increase in total CV sales in July, with domestic volumes rising 28 per cent and international sales increasing 128 per cent.
