The agreement aims to speed up the replacement of ageing commercial vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors, bringing the country’s largest commercial vehicle (CV) maker into a government-backed initiative to replace aging trucks and buses operating in the Delhi-NCR region.

Under the agreement, Tata Motors will provide an 8 per cent discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible vehicles purchased under the scheme. In the case of electric vehicles, the discount will be limited to the level applicable to an internal combustion engine vehicle within the same gross vehicle weight category.

With this, Tata Motors joins a group of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that have already entered into similar arrangements with the ministry as part of the same framework.

The initiative is part of the Centre's broader effort to phase out ageing, high-emission commercial vehicles from the Delhi-NCR airshed, where vehicular pollution remains a persistent concern. The MoU structure is designed to bring manufacturers directly into the programme, with OEM-led discounts complementing existing scrappage and replacement incentives available to fleet operators.
