Tata Motors Wins 5,000-Bus Order From State Transport Bodies Across India

Tata Motors on Friday announced bagging cumulative orders exceeding 5,000 buses and bus chassis from state-owned transport operators across India, in what represents one of the most significant public mobility procurement rounds the company has disclosed in recent years. The orders were secured through the government's competitive e-bidding procurement process, with deliveries to be carried out in stages in line with schedules agreed with each transport corporation.

Nine State Transport Undertakings placed orders as part of the tranche, spanning Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana and Chandigarh. The buying bodies include the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation, Haryana Roadways, and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking.

The contract covers a broad range of Tata Motors passenger mobility products, among them the Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and LPO series -- vehicles built for intercity, long-haul, and urban operations.

Anand S, Vice President and Head of Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, said the scale of the orders demonstrated the confidence state operators continue to place in the company. 

"These cumulative orders strengthen our position as the country's preferred mobility partner and reinforce our commitment to shaping India's public transport of tomorrow," he said in a statement.

The company noted that its commercial passenger vehicle range spans nine-seater to 55-seater configurations across multiple powertrain options, backed by a nationwide sales and service network of more than 4,500 touchpoints.

The announcement comes on the back of a solid financial quarter for Tata Motors' commercial vehicle division. Revenue for the three months to December rose 17 per cent to ₹21,533 crore from ₹18,478 crore in the same period a year earlier. EBITDA margin edged up to 12.7 per cent from 12.4 per cent, while EBIT margin expanded more sharply, moving to 10.6 per cent from 9.6 per cent.
