Tesla Inaugurates New Destination Charging Station In Thane, Launches Refer & Earn Programme For Customers

Tesla India has expanded its charging network with a new Destination Charging Station. The newest outlet is located at the Lake Shore mall in Thane, near Mumbai. The newest outlet will have four Destination Chargers AC, 11 kW each, and the automaker promises a 99.95 per cent uptime, making it a convenient location for Tesla owners in the area. Destination chargers are different from Superchargers, which as the name suggests, have faster charging capabilities. With the latest outlet, Tesla now operates seven charging stations across India, equipped with 20 Superchargers and 24 Destination Chargers. In addition to the new destination charging station, Tesla has announced its referral programme for existing customers.

Under the Tesla Refer and Earn Program, existing customers can refer friends and family to purchase a Tesla. Existing owners will be able to earn ₹11,000 toward supercharging or a new Tesla for each person they refer who takes delivery. Furthermore, the first 10 people who order a new Tesla using the referral link will receive ₹22,000 off on their purchase price. Tesla says the new programme aims to strengthen the automaker’s growing community and accelerate EV adoption. At present, the American electric carmaker retails two models in India - the Model Y and Model Y L with three-row seating.

The Tesla Model Y was recently updated for MY2026, bringing new features such as Grok AI and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system. The Grok AI has been optimised specifically for the Indian market and gets multi-language support, incorporating Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada, apart from English.

There are no changes to the mechanicals and the 2026 Tesla Model Y continues to offer up to 500 km (WLTP) on a single charge, while 0-100 kmph comes up in 5.9 seconds. Power goes only to the rear wheels on the Model Y. Notably, Tesla discontinued the Long Range version in India earlier this year. Instead, customers can now get the Model Y L with All-Wheel Drive that comes with a range of 681 km (WLTP). It also gets a third row with captain seats in the middle row, and 0-100 kmph comes up in flat 5 seconds. The Tesla Model Y L is priced from ₹61.99 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.
