The move brings the starting cost of the Model Y down by ₹9 lakhs, but reduces the available options.

Tesla India has quietly changed its Model Y variant lineup in India. The variants previously named Standard and Long Range, priced at ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh respectively, which have been listed since Tesla's official India launch last year, no longer appear to be available to order. Instead, there is now only a Premium variant listed at ₹50.89 lakh. It’s available to order now, with deliveries set to begin in July 2026. The three-row Model Y L continues to be available for ₹61,99,000.

Tesla changed its Model Y and Model 3 naming scheme in early 2026, dropping “standard” as a descriptor for base variants and instead referring to them as just Rear Wheel Drive. This came after the company launched its lower-cost Model Y Standard with reduced features in some markets. Bringing India in line with this naming scheme could signal that the company is preparing to launch the Model Y Standard here, which could help its sluggish sales.

The new 2026 Model Y Premium RWD has a 500km WLTP-rated range. Top speed is 201kmph, and it can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 5.9 seconds. There’s 2,138 litres of baggage space, with power-folding rear seats. This means that while the new variant is considerably more affordable, there is no long-range (622km) option on offer anymore.

Buyers will get an all-black interior, with a two-tone Zen Grey option priced at ₹95,000. Stealth Grey is still the only exterior colour option available at the list price, and buyers will have to pay ₹95,000 more for Pearl White Multi-Coat or Diamond Black. The Glacier Blue paint option is a ₹1,25,000 upcharge, while Ultra Red and Quicksilver are priced at ₹1,85,000.

Tesla continues to offer Full Self Driving as a ₹6,00,000 add-on at the time of purchase, as opposed to the subscription model it has moved to in many other countries. There is still no official update about when buyers will actually be able to use this capability.
