Tesla would commence volume production of Optimus in the US later this year.
US-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla has signalled its intention to bring its Optimus humanoid robot to India when conditions allow, with the company's Asia-Pacific chief also pointing to plans for expanding its energy solutions business in the country. Isabel Fan, Tesla's head for the APAC region, made the remarks to reporters on Wednesday at the Indian launch of the Model Y L, the company's six-seater, three-row SUV, news agency PTI reported.
Fan said Tesla would commence volume production of Optimus in the US later this year. "Humanoid robots will be big part of our life in the future," she said, describing a range of potential applications including companionship, carrying out hazardous tasks that people would rather avoid, and providing in-home medical support.

On the prospect of bringing the robot to India, Fan said: "I have a commitment when it (time) comes right on the things (as) you have seen (in) other markets, we want to bring to India. That's the goal."
She added that robots would make daily life considerably easier. "This is a good option for humans to have a better use of time and be more productive," Fan said.
Fan also drew attention to Tesla's energy division, which she said receives insufficient attention in India despite its global scale. "We are also a vertically integrated energy solution company, from solar, from energy storage to the usage plans and EV is one of them," she said, noting that the company offers Megapack storage for commercial customers and Powerwall units for households.
Pointing to India's abundant sunshine as a natural fit for the business, Fan suggested the country could be a strong candidate for Tesla's energy offering. "So hopefully in the near future, I think we have needs. India is not short of sun (and) we may need," she said, adding that the company would move into the energy solutions space in India when the timing was right.
