Land Rover’s resurrected Freelander features an ultrawide display. However, the SUV will remain exclusive to China.
Chery Jaguar Land Rover, a China-exclusive joint venture, has released comprehensive technical specifications for the upcoming Freelander 8, the inaugural product spearheading the market revival of the Freelander brand. However, rather than conventional powertrain metrics, the vehicle's interior is taking the centre stage, thanks to its record-breaking infotainment display size.
The interior of the Freelander 8 is designed entirely around its ‘Panoramic Intelligent Display’, a massive 46.3-inch far-field screen that stretches across the dashboard. Measuring 1.2 metres in total width, the screen exceeds mainstream premium automotive competitors by 300 mm. The hardware delivers a crisp 8K resolution as well.
Engineered for all-weather legibility, the display outputs a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, which the joint-venture manufacturer claims is the industry’s only large-format panel capable of maintaining clear, glare-free visibility in intense, direct sunlight or shifting ambient conditions. This ultra-wide panoramic panel serves as the primary interface for the vehicle's navigation, trip data, and infotainment ecosystem, replacing traditional separate instrument clusters and passenger screens with a singular, continuous digital surface.

To power the immense data demands of the 46.3-inch 8K screen and onboard software, the vehicle incorporates a cross-industry tech alliance involving Freelander, Huawei, CATL, and Qualcomm. The entire vehicle lineup comes standard with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade processor. This next-generation computing platform delivers a 3-fold increase in CPU processing speed, a nearly 3-fold jump in GPU graphics rendering, and a 12-fold surge in NPU artificial intelligence computing power compared to the older Snapdragon 8295 chip.
This processing muscle directly supports the vehicle's automated driving features. The Freelander 8 comes standard across all model grades with the advanced Huawei Qiankun ADS 4.1 intelligent driving suite, designed to support seamless over-the-air software upgrades.
The autonomous perception architecture is backed by an advanced 896-line LiDAR sensor mounted to the roofline, providing high-resolution spatial scanning to manage dense urban and highway driving environments across China.
