SUVs have been really popular for the past few years due to their commanding seating position and good ground clearance. But which are the highest-selling SUVs in 2023, let’s have a look. Notably, sales figures for December are not out yet so all the figures in this list comprise sales from January to November 2023.
Total sales In 2023 - 1,57,794 units
It should come as no surprise to see a Maruti Suzuki product leading the sales chart. Maruti Suzuki sold the most units of the Brezza in July 2023, at 16,543 units. The Brezza is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 102 bhp and 136.8 Nm and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Brezza is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit, producing 87 bhp and 121.5 NM in CNG mode and only comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Total sales in 2023 - 1,55,028 units
Coming in at a close second is the heavily updated Tata Nexon. The subcompact SUV saw the highest sales in October 2023, at 16,887 units. These sales figures also include the popular Nexon EV. The Nexon is available with two engines – a 118 bhp, 170 Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 113 bhp, 260 Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine – and a plethora of gearbox options such as a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

It should come as no surprise that the popular compact SUV is on this list. Due to get a facelift next month, the Creta saw the highest sales in January 2023, at 15,037 units. Currently, the Creta gets a 113 bhp, 144 Nm 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine. While the petrol engine only gets the 6-step CVT, the diesel engine gets either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Tata Punch started the micro SUV segment in India and has been a popular choice among buyers ever since. Tata Motors sold the most units of the Punch in October 2023, at 15,317 units. The Punch gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 86 bhp and 115 Nm and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. It also gets a factory-fitted CNG kit and produces 72.5 bhp and 103 Nm in CNG mode.
Total sales in 2023 - 1,18,895 units
Last on this list is the Hyundai Venue. The subcompact SUV saw the highest sales in September 2023, when Hyundai sold 12,204 units. The Venue is available with three engine options – an 82 bhp, 114 Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine, a 118 bhp, 172 Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 114 bhp, 250 Nm, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Venue also gets a choice of a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
