The upcoming Toyota plant will have a production capacity of 100,000 units annually, and will employ about 2,800 employees once fully operational.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced its third manufacturing plant in India, expanding its presence. The automaker’s new facility will be located in the Bidkin Industrial Area, near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, and is set to be operational in the first half of 2029. Toyota has also confirmed it will be rolling out a new SUV from the new facility. The announcement comes just days after the Japanese carmaker denied reports of commissioning a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra.

The upcoming Toyota plant will have a production capacity of 100,000 units annually, and will employ about 2,800 employees once fully operational. The new facility will have stamping, welding, painting, and assembly processes. The company has also confirmed that the new plant will not only cater to domestic demand but also export models to “surrounding regions.” Toyota presently has two manufacturing plants in India, both located in Bidadi, Karnataka. Both facilities have a total installed capacity of 342,000 units, and employ about 6,466 personnel.

Toyota did not disclose the proposed investment into the manufacturing facility, but the move is in line with the automaker signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Maharashtra in 2024. At the time, Toyota said it plans to invest about ₹20,000 crore in the new greenfield plant.

The upcoming facility is expected to produce the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, which will be heavily localised offering expected in the ₹25-30 lakh price bracket. The ladder-frame SUV will take on the Mahindra Scorpio-N, bridging the gap between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Fortuner in the automaker’s SUV lineup.
