Toyota FJ Cruiser is based on a modified version of the IMV platform that underpins the likes of Innova Crysta and Fortuner.
Toyota displayed the FJ Cruiser at the Japan Mobility Show in May 2026. Also called the “Baby Land Cruiser”, the SUV is set to be launched across Asian markets, including India. Notably, the right-hand-drive version of the new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has been spotted testing on public roads in Bangkok for the first time.
As seen in the latest spy shot, the Toyota FJ Cruiser test mule remains heavily camouflaged, but its distinctive boxy silhouette makes it easily recognisable. Based on an old-school ladder-frame chassis, the FJ Cruiser will sit below the Fortuner in Toyota India line-up and will measure 4575 mm in length, 1855 mm in width and 1960 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2580 mm. Despite its compact proportions, the FJ Cruiser will be the tallest model in the Land Cruiser family when it is launched.

Despite being draped in heavy camouflage, the new Land Cruiser FJ is expected to closely resemble the model unveiled last year. It will carry over signature C-shaped daytime running lamps, a rugged front bumper, squared-off wheel arches, conventional door handles, and functional roof rails. At the rear, the SUV is likely to feature a flatter profile with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, a large bumper, and C-shaped taillamps.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has a luggage carrying capacity of 765-litres. True to its identity, the new FJ will have a ground clearance of 215 mm. Although interiors haven’t been revealed in the latest spy image, the FJ Cruiser is expected to come with an all-black cabin just like the one showcased at the Japan Mobility Show last year.
In terms of features, Toyota FJ Cruiser is likely to come with a large centrally-mounted touchscreen infotainment unit, a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, round AC vents, a digital driver’s display, leatherette seats, and others. The Land Cruiser FJ will have multiple airbags, a 360-degree surround view camera and Level 2 ADAS.

The new Land Cruiser FJ is expected to be powered by a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE inline four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 161 bhp and 246 Nm of peak torque. This engine is likely to be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. Toyota may also offer a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine with a micro-hybrid setup.

For India, the Land Cruiser FJ could additionally be offered with strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Transmission options may include six-speed automatic and six-speed manual gearboxes, with a part-time 4WD system expected to be standard across variants.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to be launched in India by 2028. The Land Cruiser FJ could become the first model to roll out of Toyota’s upcoming Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra. When launched, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to be priced around ₹30–35 lakh (ex-showroom).
