Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is all set to launch its 12th model in India, the Taisor. Set to debut tomorrow, April 3, the subcompact SUV is a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Here’s what you need to know.
The Taisor is the sixth badge-engineered model shared by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The two brands currently share the Glanza-Baleno, Rumion-Ertiga, Urban Cruiser Hyryder-Grand Vitara and Innova Hycross-Invicto models between them.
While not confirmed, the upcoming subcompact SUV could either be called the Taisor or Urban Cruiser Taisor as other compact/subcompact Toyota SUVs use the Urban Cruiser moniker.
The Taisor is yet to be fully revealed, but Toyota has teased the design of its new SUV. The Taisor will get a slightly different fascia compared to the Fronx. It will get two horizontal LED strips for the DRLs and will have a redesigned grille. However, it will retain the same split headlamp design as the Front.
In profile, not much is expected to change in the Taisor apart from a new design for the 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear of the Taisor will carry over the full-width LED light bar but the elements in the taillights will have a different design compared to the Fronx.
In terms of features, expect the Taisor to have a similar features list to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. It is likely to get a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, an Arkamys-tuned sound system, and more.
Under the hood, the Taisor will likely get the 88 bhp, 113Nm, 1.2-litre petrol engine and the 98 bhp, 148 Nm, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Fronx. And like it, the Taisor could also get the factory-fitted CNG kit. Gearbox options are likely to include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.
Like all the above-mentioned badge-engineered models, expect the Taisor to be slightly more expensive than the Fronx. The Taisor could be priced at a premium of ₹10,000 - 40,000 over the Fronx, which is priced between ₹7.51 lakh - 12.87 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
