Triumph is likely to bring out the Trident 800 to India at some point in the future and it will most probably be offered as a fully-imported CBU.
Triumph Motorcycles has taken the covers off from the all-new Trident 800. Launched in the United Kingdom, the roadster will start reaching dealerships by March next year. As expected, the new Trident 800 will sit above the Trident 660 and hence shares a familiar look. However, underneath it’s a completely different beast.
Like the Trident 660, Trident 800 looks compact with its signature neo-retro styling. Up front, it gets a round headlamp headlined by a small cowl above that slightly differentiates the Trident 800 from its smaller sibling. Other visual highlights such as a sculpted fuel tank, a two-piece stepped seat, a floating tail section, and a belly pan seem familiar to the eyes.

The exhaust muffler, however, has been reengineered with the outlet now positioned on the right side of the motorcycle instead of beneath it. The gold-finished alloy wheels and the brushed aluminium elements add a touch of sophistication to the middleweight roadster. Triumph is offering the Trident 800 in three colourways: Ash Grey with Diablo Red, Carnival Red with Graphite, and Jet Black.
Powering the Trident 800 is a 798 cc triple-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which delivers 114 bhp at 10,750rpm and a peak torque of 85 Nm at 8,500rpm. This is the motor that propels the Tiger Sport 800. Power output has decreased by 5 horses, whereas torque has increased by 4 Nm compared to the Street Triple R. This has been achieved thanks to a revised intake system. Mated to this engine is a six-speed gearbox that gets the Triumph Shift Assist for clutchless up and downshifts.

Underpinning the Trident 800 is a steel perimeter main frame that has been updated to fit the wider triple-throttle layout of the 798cc mill. Suspension duties are carried out by a fully-adjustable Showa setup comprising a 41mm inverted fork and a rear monoshock. Braking gets a big upgrade in the form of twin 310mm front discs with four-piston radial calipers. The Trident 800 tips the weighing scales at 198kg, making it 9 kilos heavier than the Street Triple R.
As far as features go, the new Trident 800 is equipped with an extensive suite of electronic aids, including cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, and three selectable riding modes—Road, Sport, and Rain. Convenience features include cruise control and Bluetooth connectivity which enables smartphone connectivity for music, calls, and navigation. These functions are seamlessly integrated into a modern 3.5-inch TFT colour display, operated via intuitive handlebar-mounted controls. Other notable features include self-cancelling indicators, and an all-LED lighting setup.
Triumph has priced the Trident 800 at GBP 9,195 (equivalent to ₹10.72 lakh) in the UK. While the British brand hasn’t officially confirmed the launch of the Trident 800, there are good chances of Triumph bringing this roadster to India at some point in the future. In all likelihood, the Trident 800 will be positioned slightly above the Street Triple R (priced at ₹11.16 lakh) at around ₹11.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
