The service is rolling out to users in India right now
Truecaller has unveiled its AI-enabled call recording feature in India, accessible to both Android and iOS users. This new feature enables users to document both incoming and outgoing calls directly from the Truecaller app, providing a practical method for recording and storing critical conversations.
This feature, part of the Truecaller Premium subscription, offers advanced cloud-based recording that Truecaller asserts delivers superior voice clarity. It also includes an AI-driven transcription feature in English and Hindi from any caller. The service has initially been introduced in English speaking regions such as the US.
Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Managing Director of Truecaller India and Chief Product Officer of Truecaller, expressed his excitement, stating, "We are constantly innovating cutting-edge solutions that enhance communication. As we continue to push these boundaries, we are thrilled to announce our AI-enabled Call Recording solution, which has been a highly requested user feature by our 266M active users in India. We want to give our customers greater control and flexibility in managing their conversations, and it is also a very valuable tool for both personal and professional purposes."
The service is currently being deployed to both iOS and Android users.
With the rise of generative AI, such unique features are increasingly being incorporated by smartphone brands on their devices. For example, Samsung's Galaxy AI, launched with its latest Galaxy S24 smartphones, offers real-time call transcription capabilities and plans to extend this feature to its older S23 series and Fold Z 5 line of smartphones. Google's Pixel smartphones also provide live transcription technology integrated into its voice memos app.
It remains to be seen how this will unfold, especially considering that Android call recording apps have been prohibited since May 2023.
