Tsuyo signs LOI with Karnataka Govt for new Dharwad plant to manufacture heavy-duty EV powertrains up to 600 kW and dedicated testing track. Agreement formalised at Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025.

EV powertrain manufacturer Tsuyo Manufacturing Pvt Ltd has signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of Karnataka to set up a new manufacturing facility and a dedicated large-scale testing track for commercial electric vehicles in the state.

The agreement was signed during the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 in the presence of Shri Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT & Biotechnology and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, senior state officials, and Tsuyo Director Lalit L Baid.

The proposed plant, to be located in Dharwad, will produce heavy-duty electric powertrain components including motors (IPMSM, ACIM, SRM, SynRM and Axial Flux types), e-drives, e-axles, automatic transmissions, integrated 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 systems, and complete powertrain assemblies. Production capacity will range from 0.5 kW to 250 kW, with scalability up to 600 kW through existing partnerships with CETL and LvKON.

A separate full-size testing track will be developed for validation of electric buses, trucks, mining vehicles and other heavy commercial EVs under Indian operating conditions.

The project aims to reduce India’s dependence on imported EV powertrain components, strengthen the domestic supply chain for commercial electric vehicles, and create direct and indirect employment opportunities in north Karnataka.

Vijay Kumar, Founder and CEO of Tsuyo, stated that the facility will help deliver locally manufactured, high-reliability powertrain solutions tailored for Indian roads and usage patterns. Minister Priyank Kharge noted that the investment aligns with the state’s LEAP programme and industry-friendly policies, and is expected to attract further EV-related companies to Karnataka.

Tsuyo specialises in electric motors, drives, converters, gearboxes and e-axle solutions for both light and heavy-duty applications.
