A hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system that uses sealed tubes in a near-vacuum-like environment.

TuTr Hyperloop and BEML Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a full-scale Hyperloop for passengers and cargo transportation. TuTr Hyperloop is a deep-tech startup incubated by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM).

Hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system where passengers or cargo vehicles, known as pods, travel in a closed, sealed tubes in a near-vacuum like environment. This allows the pods to trael at extremely high speeds with magnetic levitation (maglev) and linear induction motor (LIM) systems.

BEML, formerly known as Bharat Eatth Movers Limited, will service as the primary manufacturer for TuTr’s hyperloop. The partnership’s aim is to Make In India, for the global markets, and will produce “future-ready transportation systems” using the aforementioned systems.

TuTr Hyperloop demonstrated this technology using a 1.2-ton subscale prototype pod, called Garuda Vahaan, on a 410 metre-long test track with the help of the Indian Railways, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Construction and ArcellorMittal.
