Both electric vehicles were showcased to the union minister on separate occasions.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, recently checked out the Tata Harrier EV and Kia Carens Clavis EV, two electric vehicles that were launched in India just a few weeks ago.
It’s to be noted that Kumaraswamy experienced the two EVs on separate occasions. Tata Motors presented the Harrier EV at the flag-off ceremony for the Delhi-Thimpu EV drive, undertaken in a Punch EV. Alongside these two, there were other models also on display, like the Safari, Harrier and Curvv.
Kumaraswamy said, “This demonstration reflects the technological leap India’s EV ecosystem is making under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi avaru. A proud moment for #MakeInIndia and a glimpse into the future of green, sustainable & smart mobility.”
Kia India showed the Clavis EV, its latest electric vehicle, to Kumaraswamy, but the Minister didn’t post anything on Twitter (formerly X) regarding his views on the electric MPV.

Both the Harrier EV and Clavis EV are made in India. The Harrier EV is built at Tata Motors’ Pune plant in Maharashtra, while the Clavis EV is produced at Kia India’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh.
The Harrier EV is a big leap forward for Tata Motors as it marks the return of all-wheel drive (AWD) tech in the Indian auto giant’s portfolio. It comes with either a 65 kWh or a 75 kWh battery pack, and AWD is only available with the top-spec variant with the larger battery pack.

The Clavis EV is not Kia India’s first electric vehicle, but it is its first mass-market EV. Kia India is betting big with the Clavis EV as it will help further its electrification journey in India. Kia India will not stop at the Clavis as being its only mass-market EV, as it is also pondering launching the Syros EV in India in the near future.
