Uno Minda to Build New EV Powertrain Plant in Maharashtra With ₹550 Crore Investment

Auto components maker Uno Minda Limited is to establish a new manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, dedicated to high-voltage electric powertrain systems for four-wheeler passenger vehicles (PVs).

The greenfield plant will be set up through the company's subsidiary, Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited, and will produce and assemble Electric Drive Units (EDUs) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems. The company said the move has been backed by fresh orders for both product lines from a key anchor customer.

Uno Minda has set aside ₹550 crore for the project, to be funded through a combination of debt and equity. Capital expenditure will be spread across phases over the next two years, with the plant expected to be commissioned in Q2 FY28.

The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar announcement is the second EV powertrain facility Uno Minda Auto Innovations has earmarked in quick succession. The company is already building a plant at Khed City in Pune, Maharashtra, which is slated to come online in the second half of FY27.

Uno Minda said the expansion reflects growing demand for advanced electrified drivetrains across vehicle types, spanning battery electric vehicles, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and range-extended electric vehicles.

Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda Limited, said the company is scaling up both its manufacturing footprint and its product range in EV powertrain technologies, with a particular focus on increasing the localisation of high-voltage systems within India.
