August will see the advent of a new segment in India and a plethora of new models launching in India.
The festive season is right around the corner and as usual, there are a bunch of new cars and SUVs that are ready to be launched in India. The new launches will also see the advent of a new segment, the mass-market coupe SUV, in India. Let’s dive right in and see what’s in store in August 2024.
Launch: August 1, 2024
Expected Price: ₹30 - 35 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
Unveiled in July, Nissan’s flagship model will resume its completely built unit (CBU) business in India. Bookings for the full-size SUV began on July 26 for a token amount of ₹1 lakh and deliveries are also expected to begin in August itself. The X-Trail will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tiguan and Jeep Meridian. It is powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that develops 161 bhp and 300 Nm and comes with a mild-hybrid assist as well as a CVT.
Launch: August 7, 2024
Expected Price: ₹12 - 18 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
The Curvv is Tata Motors’ foray into the compact SUV segment and it will do it in style, with a coupe SUV body style. The Curvv has been in development for a while, with the concept first debuting in 2022. It will be launched alongside its electric vehicle (EV) sibling and will come loaded with features like a large touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, automatic climate control and more. The Curvv will come with petrol and diesel engines mated to manual and automatic gearboxes. It will primarily rival the Citroën Basalt but will also see competition from the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the likes.
Launch: August 7, 2024
Expected Price: ₹20 - 25 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
The Curvv.ev will be Tata Motors’ fifth EV in India, following the Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, Punch.ev and Nexon.ev. While powertrain details remain scant, it is expected to come with multiple battery pack and powertrain options. While there are no electric coupe SUVs in India, the Curvv.ev will face competition from the MG ZS EV and the BYD Atto 3.
Launch: August 8, 2024
Expected Price: ₹1.5 crore (ex-showroom, India)
Right after Tata Motors launches two models, Mercedes-Benz will also launch one new model in India and another model will make its comeback. The German marque is ready to launch the CLE Cabriolet in India, which will essentially replace the C-Class and E-Class Cabriolets. Mercedes-Benz hasn’t announced which variant of the CLE will be coming to India, but expect the CLE 300 to come to India first. The CLE 300 gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid assist that produces 254 bhp and 400 Nm. The hybrid assist gives it a boost of 23 bhp and 205 Nm.

Expected Price: ₹1.10 - ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India)
The other Mercedes-Benz product on the cards is the GLC 43 Coupe SUV. The AMG version of the GLC comes to India after almost a year of the standard model launching in India. It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out a healthy 415 bhp and 500 Nm. It will rival the Porsche Macan in India.
Launch: August 9, 2024
Expected Price: ₹5 crore (ex-showroom, India)
The third variant of the Urus is all set to come to India just a few months after its global debut. The Urus SE is the first hybrid SUV by Lamborghini and it looks slightly different compared to the Urus S and Performante variants. The Urus SE gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine assisted by an electric motor and a 25.9 kWh battery pack. Combined, it produces 789 bhp and 950 Nm and comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Launch: August 15, 2024
Expected Price: ₹15 - 22 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
Mahindra’s biggest launch this year is the 5-door version of the Thar, which will be called the Thar Roxx. The longer version of the rugged SUV will have a different grille, headlamps, alloy wheels and taillamps. It will also get C-pillar mounted door handles and lots of chrome. The interior is yet to be revealed but it is expected to get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera and more.
Launch: Mid-August 2024
Expected Price: ₹12 - 15 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
Citroën is gearing up to launch its fifth product in India, the Basalt, which along with the Tata Curvv will kickstart the mass-market coupe SUV segment in the country. Till now, Citroën has released the exterior images of the Basalt and the interior is also to also be revealed in the coming days. Furthermore, the powertrain details are also likely to be revealed soon but it could come with the same engine as the C3 Aircross – a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a manual and an automatic gearbox.
Launch: August 30, 2024
Expected Price: ₹2 crore (ex-showroom, India)
After launching the Grecale SUV, Maserati is also launching the GranTurismo sports car in India later this month. While there is no confirmation, the internal combustion engine (ICE) version is likely to be launched first, followed by the all-electric GranTurismo Folgore. The ICE version gets the same 3.0-litre Nettuno V6 engine as the MC20 supercar.
Launch: Late August 2024
Expected Price: ₹10 - 15 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
JSW MG Motor India also has a new product in the pipeline. It will be a derivative of the Wuling Cloud electric crossover but is likely to sport a different name when rebadged as an MG product. The Cloud EV packs a 50.6 kWh battery pack that gives it a claimed range of 460 km. Its single-electric motor is expected to produce 134 bhp and 200 Nm and will come paired with a single-speed transmission.
