Bajaj also plans to expand the portfolio further in FY26
In a recent investors call, Bajaj’s Executive Director, Rakesh Sharma, has signalled the arrival of an updated version of the most affordable 2903 variant of the Bajaj Chetak. Bajaj rolled out the 3503 variant of the Chetak a few weeks ago, which is the lowest spec iteration on the new 35 series and one trim above the 2903 model. Hence, the 2903 is pending a thorough update, which will arrive shortly.
“With the introduction of the third 35 Series variant, the 3503, at the end of May 2025, as well as the impending launch of a new variant in June — an upgrade to the entry-level and high-selling 2903 — the Chetak portfolio will become very potent. Further expansion of this portfolio is envisaged in FY26 to address emerging sub-segments,” Sharma said.

Currently, Bajaj retails the Chetak 2903 at just a smidge under a lakh of rupees. We don’t think that would change once the update arrives as Bajaj wouldn’t want to change its value proposition. What the company might do is upgrade the battery pack and make minor modifications to the chassis, like it did with the new 35 series, to extract more range and make the riding experience far better.
This would definitely help Bajaj’s cause in the electric space as it battles with TVS for EV supremacy. The two brands have managed to dethrone Ola from the top spot for months as the Indian customers are finally taking note of quality and stable electric products rather than flashy stuff. There is a potential roadblock in the future, not only for Bajaj but for all electric players, though. The shortage of rare earth magnets and the disruption in supply chain could witness a slowdown of EV production. Here’s what Sharma’s thoughts are on the matter.
